Shuyi Nie, Ph.D
PI
Dr. Nie received her B.S. degree in Biology from Peking University in China in 2002. In 2007, she received her Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she worked on elucidating signaling pathways in vertebrate gastrulation movements. Thereafter, she conducted postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Marianne Bronner at California Institute of Technology. She joined Georgia Tech in Fall 2014.
Mary Kho
Ph.D Student
Mary joined the Ph.D program after conducting undergraduate research in the lab working on investigating the role of Cdc42 effector protein 3 in somitogenesis. Now she studies the interaction between Cdc42 effector protein 1 and septin filaments in neural crest cells. In her free time, she enjoys reading and watching dramas.
Cooper Shenyu Lyu
Ph.D Student
Cooper is an Illinois Wesleyan graduate who joined Nie lab in 2019 after earning a B.S. in Biology. She is currently investigating adhesion protein (i.e. cadherins) dynamics during epithelial-mesenchymal transition and how it affects collective cell migration.
Coralie Bergeron
Lab Technician/Post-Bach Researcher
Coralie joined the lab in October of 2022 after getting her B.S. in Neuroscience from Georgia State University. She is investigating the role of the gene ETS1 in heart development and continuing alumni's work on a gene screening project. In her free time, Coralie likes to read and rock climb.
Junhui Li
Master Student
Junhui received his B.S. Biology degree from the University of Alberta, Canada, in 2023 and joined the Nie Lab as a graduate student the same year. Junhui's research interests focus on the molecular mechanisms influencing Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) in cancer cells and embryonic cells during metastasis and development. Junhui's personal interests include cycling and cooking.
Wesley Lanter
Undergraduate Researcher
Wesley is a 3rd year undergraduate student majoring in biology. He has been researching with the Nie Lab since January of 2023 and primarily collaborates with Mary on exploring cytoskeletal elements’ roles in cell migration. In his free time, Wesley enjoys singing, lifting, and science fiction.
Fiona Guo
Undergraduate Researcher
Fiona is a 3rd year undergraduate student majoring in neuroscience. She has been part of the Nie lab since August 2022 and primarily works with Cooper on examining adhesion protein dynamics' effects on collective cell migration.
Feranmi Akande
Undergraduate Researcher
Feranmi is a 3rd-year undergraduate in biomedical engineering who has been part of the Nie Lab since May 2023. She has been working primarily on the left heart project and focusing on cardiomyocyte proliferation. Outside the lab, she enjoys roller derby and playing the violin.
